As a southerner I've never taken much notice of reports of snow in the UK but after recent events I must admit that I'm now a bit concerned.

We fly from Gatwick very early on Sunday (19th) morning and considering how useless we seem to be a coping with a few inches of snow I've never been so hopeful to not see any of the white stuff.

How ironic would it be if snow delays my skiing holiday?

Anyone else want to join my support group? I'm sure that together we can keep ward off these pesky Arctic winds!

Flying from Stansted Sunday morning and I am keeping an eye on the forecast. I'm confident I can get to the airport, even with lots of snow on Saturday (nice big 4x4!!) and will just keep my fingers crossed that Stansted and then Chambery dont have anything more than minor delays.
Jon - if it was me and a really early flight I would be considering getting to Gatwick the night before and camping out if there is a big dump. Early morning travel is pretty much always the worst after snow. The gatwick forecast on Sat/Sun is for light snow according to the BBC, so fingers crossed.

Guys, theres nowt you can do about it. I'd be tempted to travel down the night before and stop over to be safe, but if the airport gets snowbound you're basically ****ed!

Both airports in the south, id say you dont have much to worry about. The conditions are far worse the further north you go. I live near lds bfd airport and if you have never travelled from here before let me tell you they do very well to keep flights running even with snow. If in doubt like Tony says travel the night before and stay over, small price to pay to get to the airport on time and more importantly stress free...

The weather forecast now says heavy snow for Gatwick on Saturday, and 25 mph winds gusting 49 mph, followed by light snow on Saturday night.

I agree with the others, and if it was me I think I'd try and get there early Saturday and book a hotel for the night, in the hope that they get the runway cleared on Sunday. I remember, 40 years ago, having to sleep in an airport because we couldn't leave on our ski holiday (fog) and it was extremely uncomfortable!

Best of luck everyone, and I hope you all get to your destinations on time complete with luggage etc. and have a great time when you're there :D

We had to cancel the school ski and snowboard club trips to Xscape for 2weeks because of it-everyone thought the sign "Ski club cancelled due to snow" was hilarious!

Take a chill pill, what is the point of worrying about what has not happened yet, just allow plenty of time to get to the airport.
When I fly in January I have a plan B not because of being snowed in but in case those BA cretins decide to strike again ...... I shall just have the car all ready to go.

Ally did you write that post just to worry me.

I am leaving the rock at 11.55am on Saturday going to Gatwick with Easycanceljet, last year had a nightmare with them as it snowed the night before so LGW shut till 1 pm.Easyjets response was to cancel all flights regardless, so I was stuck here.
Rebooked & paid for a flight for the next day, according to them when I tried to get this flight online as a transfer the site didn't work & told me no seats available.
Booked on home page alright with seats available.
This is the cost of flights, see if can spot the scam?
Flight Friday 18/12/09 £ 37.18 one way.( cancelled due to snow )
Flight Saturday 19/12/09 € 259.99 one way.( all aboard )

Took 3 months & 17 emails to get them to refund me the money as in their T&Cs , so if Allys forecast is accurate watch out for another meltdown with the airlines.
