Staying at Le Fayet/st gervais without a car.

I've booked a holiday for early January to stay at the hotel des deux gares in Le Fayet, However I didn't realise that this was away from the main slopes. As we are going with Snowcoach we won't have a car and I was wondering how people get from Le Fayet to St Gervais. I've read about the Tramway but can't get any clarification as to if its open in the winter or how weather conditions affect it.

If anyone has any ideas that would be really helpful.
