Hi All,

Really quick question...I'm going to Sauze D'Oulx on Jan 2nd (weeing myself with excitement already)

General consensus...better to buy our ski passes before or at resort?

I'm guessing it would be cheaper to buy before maybe? As obviously once you're there they can sort of charge what they like.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Dave

In my experience, prices are usually the same whether you buy in advance or in resort. The only difference may be that, if you are going with a tour operator, their pricing may be in sterling which could give you an advantage depending on exchange rate movements since they set their prices.

Other than that, it is usually a matter of convenience - getting them in advance saves you having to queue on the 1st morning!

The Jones/ Macdonald families

Flew out from gatwick last Sunday 19 December 2010, just made it so here we are in sauze d'oulx and we love it. Snow conditions are great and it keeps snowing so if you are on your way here for New year week you will have even better snow.
People are really friendly and everybody speak english, pizza and pasta fantastic, hotel good value for money and breakfast and dinner excellent......oh yes that is at the Gran Baita hotel.

So far so good you would say....well not exactly I am actually sitting here in a bar that offers wifi for free and writing this review because I am so angry at having been ripped off by Crystal with their pre booking prices. This is going on all the forums I can find, and read on on and you will not blame me for it.
We are 2 families traveling together, I opted to pre book all and pay £177 x 2 adult lift pass,1 x 7 year old free, 1x 9 year old £115 total lift pass £469 plus 2 x adult 2 x child ski and boot £264 plus 4 x ski school £444 all in all a massive big total of £1177.

Happy, I'm no lover of Crystal, but all TOs buy their currency at least 6/9 months ahead. They will have bought their currency at c.Euro1.05 = £1-00. The pound has appreciated quite a lot against the Euro, so you could get Eur1.175 = £1-00 at present.

Some years you will win out but booking early through the TO (last season for example), other years you won't.

With the internet it is very simple to see the cost locally, and see what the exchange rate is doing.

Not Crystal's fault.

Enjoy your holiday none the less.
