Niederau - here comes the snow!

Have been watch the webcam for Niederau which is amazingly good and has a few different webcams on www.auhof.co.uk/webcam.asp

Snow has finally started to fall on the top - middle of the mountain, still no snow in the resort but with around 5 - 10cm of snow predicted over the next few days it looks like this could be the start of the snowy season for Niederau! A large decrease in temperatures has also helped from 10°C dropping down to as low as -21°C on Saturday afternoon!

Went to Niederau a few years ago for Xmas and had a very pleasant time. the kids are ok skiing in Niederau , but if you enjoy a little more variety you can get the free ski bus to Auffach whick is about 10-15 minutes away. the top lifts are at about 1800- 2000m with about 4 or 5 easy red coming off the top . You can also ski from the top down to 800m , but whatch out for th toboggon run. i accidently ended up on it on a foggy day, but lived to tell the tail.

It'll show you the conditions (vis. permitting) at the top of the Markbachjoch. We were there in mid-October, in the autumn sunshine. It was simply stunning and warm enough to be in shorts. The snow came the weekend we left and it's looking good.

I'm back there 3rd Jan for a few days - hopefully there'll be a decent base down by then. We ski elsewhere, but always keep coming back to the Wildschonau - for the beauty of the place and the hospitality of the people. It's our seventh time I think at the Kellerwirt in Oberau. It's that good we got married there :-) Can't wait to return.
