I'm off to Les Gets in December to work for the season. I've not been there before and so would appreciate some inside info... Which runs are recommended - for a quick blast out from the town and for a longer excursion when I've a day off? Any recommended places to eat cheaply on the hill and in the town? Best seasonaires bar? How about transport around the village and to the rest of the ski area?

You lucky devil. I don't have any tips about Les Gets but sure you will have a brilliant time. I'm extremely jealous.

+1

...but welcome to J2Ski! 8)

A lot (all of them?) of seasonaires hang out on Natives, so definitely worth asking there - I'm sure there are some regulars who are residents of Les Gets.

Regardless of the jealousy you might provoke; do drop back and post some updates when you're out there.

take plenty of money as it isn't a cheap resort. lovely village, small and easy to bar hop. free shuttle bus service if you need it during day time but doubt you will. bar bush, small but popular with seasonaires. you will soon find your way around, i love it there. boomerang is also popular and has live bands. bar bowling has 2 short alleys but good bar staff and good music. go late in evening though. after that go to zebra bar which is french, lots of esf instructors drink there. then on to igloo, the only disco but make sure you are drunk beforehand, drinks are about 8 euros each. seasonaires get in free and most of them drink water once inside. chamoisierre is my favourite run, new lift being built for this season. on day off go to avoriaz for great skiing, try the swiss wall. kiosk next to delavay ski shop in les gets does cheap food but you will soon find everything out for yourself and you won't be alone. les gets is very safe. have a great time

Very lucky you - I have lots of happy memories from Les Gets & would happily go back!

For a quick blast out from the town, Tulipe from the top of Le Ranfoilly is a nice run! I've spent hours on here building up my red run confidence!

:-) :D

Where will you be living?

The plan is.... there's no plan!

I'm off again at Xmas, will be my ermmm seventh(?) season there now with about 10 to 12 trips in total, family and boys trips (family this time at xmas of course :) )

Have same recommendations as those above to be honest, especially get drunk before you hit the Igloo...

For a first thing in the morning blast, with good weather head up Chavannes (new bubble this year but hit the six man chair I suggest) then down a sweet blue (with off piste options) down into the bowl and up Le Ranfoilly for a straightforward 5 - 10 minute Red back into same bowl... repeat until legs are ready ;)

By the way don't hit the second dip too hard and fast on the right or you land a mogul field...

Alternatively head down into the same bowl but go up Grains d'Or Express and hit the red down into Perrieres if the weather isn't too great up top.

If I think of anything else I'll post again...

Oh and I recommend 412 on the main strip for burgers, kebabs etc

Also new owner is running the restaurant/bar du Stade behind the ESF nursery area, I was there in the summer and he is making major changes, could be a good new venture to keep an eye on.

Le Pic was always good for a laugh and now I think is called the Dublin Inn (?) at bottom end of village towards Morzine. Run by a London Irish Spurs fan, but you can't have it all I guess :)

Maybe see you out there

Hi there - highly jealous. Les Gets is a fantastic place and the seasonaires there always seem to have a great time. It's not as expensive as some have commented earlier - you'll get to know how to have a good time on the cheap. Night life has been pretty well covered - Boomerang was certainly popular last year, but the seasonaires seemed to hang out in lots of places. Skiing-wise, for quiet (but a bit slow) lifts, empty pistes and tough skiing, the place to head is Mont Chery, particularly if you've just got a few hours to spare. It's got 3 pretty tough blacks and some nice off-piste, plus the snow-park. Even during school holidays it stays quiet, mainly because it's not linked to the rest of the ski area by lifts. Enjoy!
