The Wildschönau group on Facebook posted this live image earlier today;

Skiing: the art of catching cold and going broke while rapidly heading nowhere at great personal risk.

Looks like someones trekking up the Schatsberg. It is snowing there today. The Auhof webcam has been down for a while, they are awaiting a new internet connection.
You have definitely chosen the right year ~ I have it on pretty good authority, this is going to be one of the best winters, ever.

I saw that web cam on another site ..... the trouble is I do not pay too much attention to web cams without dates.

Ian - It has been snowing throughout the Tirol over the last 2 days with more to come at the weekend :-) Lets hope Dave is on the money for the coming season :wink:
I just love the gravitational pull

I have looked at a few web cams throughout the Tirol resorts and it looks like a dusting above mid
station, it is a tad early to be celebrating a bumper year of snow, but here's hoping .

Well, DB, he does phone me on a regular basis during the winter. I have to explain to him a lot of weather stuff, Geese and Bewick Swans arriving early, a bit about machine snow. I was very pleased this year to tell him just how good the winter is going to be. He expressed his usual gratitude.....

Ian, follow back to the website, there is a choice of two cameras, boith dated today.

I understand your further comments, Ian. In September 2000, I went walking in the Saalbach Hinterglemm Alp area. Beautiful sunshine for 3 days. Knee deep in snow for the remainder of the week. I don't take much notice of individual snowfalls. I do take notice of natural signs, and other general weather patterns.
I hesitate to stick my neck out, but I have never felt as strongly about a coming winter. It isn't optimism.
And if I'm wrong, we will all go to the pub, and I'll pay! :!:

Early snow fall is often a self fulfilling prophecy. Once there is some snow cover, a lot more heat is reflected back up. In our area, I prefer that the frost get deep into the ground before we get snow, as that bodes better for the snow lasting longer in the spring. Once there is snow, it acts as insulation, and the frost doesn't penetrate so deep.
because I'm so inclined .....
