We are in the process of booking for January as a group of four adults. Our abilities range from good/confident off piste down to intermediate/happy on reds all day.
We skied the 3V last year, based in Les Menuires, and are a bit torn this year between 3V again or Tignes. The "good" skier wants to do Chamonix, but I don't think it will suit the rest of us too well.
We loved the ski in ski out aspect of the 3V, and not having to board any buses at all was great, and we absolutely hammered the pistes, and barely skimmed over the available area.
My own personal opinion is that we should do the 3V again, but Tignes has been mentioned several times by more knowledgible skiers. None of us have ever been, so is it worth a go? Or do we stick to a tried and tested?

Tignes all day long.

Both are great ski areas but if you don't need Blues/easy runs to get around on then IMHO Tignes has the edge and you have a huge and interesting ski area to play on.

I love both areas, each has a lot going for it. Think in your position I'd opt for Tignes as it's somewhere new.
Though I'd also throw Alpe D'Huez into the mix too!

I'm with Tignes too. We've been to Espace Killy three times and still not bored.

Although I could happily go back to 3 Valleys too, but I'd try somewhere different.

2 Alpes for us this winter :)

Thanks for the replies; looks like the consensus is to try Tignes; although we are struggling to find decent accom there. I think we were spoiled the last time with our two bedroomed sleeps six monster apartment for £500 all in....I just wish I could find similar in Tignes Val Claret...

There are bigger better apartments IMHO in Le Lac. Access to the skiing is just as good.

I ski'd both 3v and espace killy last year and in my opinion 3v was better. Thats not to say EK isnt good. it is, IMHO i thought 3v had a much better mix of skiing. I have booked and will be returning to 3v in January..

If going to Espace Killy, I think Val D'Isere is better than Tignes. More interesting resort and easier access to the very best skiing in the whole area.

However, the Three Vallees does have one of the most under-rated and therefore quiet ski mountains, La Masse, above Les Menuires. Brilliant!
