Hi all,
I'm planning a trip to Alpe-D'huez for the 29th Jan-5th Feb next year. I think i've figured out flights and transfers, but I would appreciate some input on where to stay.
Thinking of self-catering, cheap end of the scale & good location to the slopes for 4-6 people.
Do sites do packages that include ski passes, as they seemed expensive, ~£200 for 6 days, or is that normal? Otherwise, where is the best plce to get the passes from?

Hire a car for minimal waiting around; send the driver ahead to do the paperwork and fetch the car whilst the rest of the group collect bags - should be ready to go as soon as your baggage comes through.
I'm pretty sure there are buses in season (there used to be) but they may be few and far between so might keep you hanging around.
Otherwise a private transfer (see the link to the left for transfers from Grenoble) will work if there are enough of you to split the cost to a reasonable level.
HTH.

Lift pass sounds about right from last years prices.
Look on either of the following: -

Chalet Isba looks good and is near the DMC Cable Car and Ski School.
TBH (assuming that you havent already booked flights) you can get some really good deals by booking a Catered Chalet for that week.

If you fancy a budget hotel that can do half board or just B&B I'd recommend the Hotel Caribou. It is very close to a lift that takes you straight up to the main slopes.

Thanks but not that easy I am afraid as we arrive in Grenoble but leave fom Lyon. Managed an extra ski day like this but now looking at €180 to resort and €350 back to Lyon for 2 people, EEK!

Hire a car, you can return to alternative airports, its a really easy drive from both airports and not too far either.
