Was supposed to be going to Schladming for the family ski hols this/next year but having just gone self employed, I need to watch the pennies..

Looking at Chamrousse, I can get there for about £500 p/p (self catering, lift passes, ski hire & ski lessons for kids). As this will be the kids' second week of skiing, I think the resort looks adequate. Being over 1700m, it'll be fairly snow sure too.

Just wondered if anyone else had been and could recant their experience.

Much appreciated y'all...

PS - if anyone needs a damn good accountant/tax advisor, drop me a line :D

yep i thought it was a cracking place. pistes are well groomed and well rated in my opinion. very little queueing for lifts except on a wednesday when alot of the schools have thier ski day. not much in the way of nightlife however there are a few nice places to eat.

let me know if there is anything else i might be able to tell you

I agree with Ewan - it's a decent little place.

I wnet there back in February and it's by no means a massive area but for you are skiiers still in their first few weeks there are some really nice greens and blues including through the trees and as you build your confidence there are lots of places where you can nip into the trees and out again - very enjoyable! You can practically ski back to the door if you are in the Chamrousse/Domain d'Arselle Apts.

The only down side is depending on where you are staying and what you want is that there is very little choice of places to eat and just the odd bar. Having said that there are a few little gems.

Likewise, if you have any questions about the place/pistes/accommodation then just ask.

How did you find the locals?
Was considering the place a while ago but was put off by a few negative reports on the attitude of the local french.
Interested to know as it does look a bargain place to go to.

Went there a couple of years ago, and thought it a great little place!!

Obviously a lot of new development has taken place over the last 5-10 years, but the little shopping centre where the bars and restuarants are was a bit of a time-warp, but actually quite charming as a result.

Only downsides really are that it's not that high, so snow record not that great, and while the Domain de l'Arselles apartments where we stayed look very stylish and modern, you do need to take the stated sleeping capacity with a pinch of salt, as they are quite small!

Oh yes, and the other thing is that while Chamrousse is just 40mins from Grenoble, it's more like 1.5 hours from Grenoble airport (which is probably actually closer to Lyon than Grenoble!)

Would still go back though, so I guess that's the true test! (and no problem with the locals - we actually found them very friendly, although it was a quiet time)
