My family has skied Niseko Japan for the last few years primarily for the deep and reliable powder. The off piste and back country options are excellent there and we are wondering if there is similar powder options at a resort in Argentina?

I haven't been in Japan, but Las LeƱas is the best option in Argentina if you looking for backcountry.

The lifts are old and service is not very good, either the on-piste skiing (too easy). But backcountry is great!!

Wind and Little snow can be an issue at Las lenas, but as HugoB said, lots of off piste places to go.
