Hi All,

I'm travelling to Vevey to stay with friends in early march (w/e 13th & 14th) and have my first ever snowboarding holiday! Very excited, but with both my wife and i being beginners (only a few lessons), we're quite unsure on a where to go.

It would be a great help if anyone could advise me on possible resorts. I'd say that the only restriction might be that we have to travel by public transport, so we'd like to keep travelling time to a minimum.

Any hints, tips or experiences would be greatly welcome!

Many thanks,

Me

Welcome to J2ski :D

From Vevey, there are lots of places you could go by rail and postbus. Head up towards Gstaad, where there are a number of resorts or to Leysin, Haute Nendaz, Anzere, or Crans Montana. When I'm passing through the stations I keep seeing rail/ski packages advertised, which will get you a rail ticket and a lift ticket included. You could ask your friends to see if they can pick up details for you at their local station.

Here is an example from the SBB site...

Bit late to reply but it came up high in Google, so for the benefit of others (intermediates, not beginners):

Les Pleiades is above Vevey - its small, but might have a view of the lake.
Rocher de Naye is pretty special (from Montreux). I'll let you find out about it ;)
Les Diablerets (from Aigle) has a glacier.
Leysin already mentioned
Rathvel/Châtel-St-Denis is near, but I'm not sure about getting there on public transport.

Basically check:

and at the bottom of the page is a map of nearby resorts. Play with that for a few hours.

Its a long way, but Thollon les Memises is worth considering. Train to Lausanne, down to waterside, (very) scenic ferry to Evian, then E20 taxi to Thollon. The skiing is not extensive but it has great views of the lake.
