Having recently returned from our first ski holiday in Passo Tonale I thought I would share our views with you all.

In a word awesome. I cannot believe I have waited so long to get involved in skiing, like many suggested we are both "hooked" I have had many summer holidays and this is up there with the best of them.

The resort. As some of you suggested its not the prettiest of resorts, but if you can see past this it has lots to offer especially for beginners. A great and reasonably priced ski school (100 euro for 6*2hr lessons) lots of gentle blue runs to build confidence.Reasonably priced apres ski (dont go if you want wild apres ski parties !! )

The best advice I can give anybody is to invest in some lessons before you embark on your first holiday it will make the enjoyment so much better I had a full day tuition at Chill Factor prior to our holiday and by the end of a weeks ski school was skiing several of the easier Red runs in Tonale. Without the chill factor lesson this simply would not of been possible for me.

Fortunately for us we had great weather for the first 5 days and on the last we were introduced to what I've heard so much about but didnt understand (I do now !! ) and that is flat light it totally transformed the ski experience for us but at least I now know what your talking about )To anybody thinking of their first ski holiday. Stop thinking just do it as it is quite simply fantastic.

And yes I'm in next year only problem where to go now ??????? still Ive got 12 months to decide :) :)

To all of you who still have their holiday to look forward to have a safe and enjoyable trip wherever your off to.

Nice one Geo. Glad you enjoyed it, and welcome to the addicts club.
Go somewhere prettier next year.
From personal experience, I'd suggest Sauze d'Oulx in Italy (cheap and lovely open quiet pistes), Serre Chevalier in France (fantasticly varied ski area and more traditional than purpose built) or Alpe d'Huez in France (cheap for France and superb ski area for all abilities).
ADH is not the concrete jungle some would have you believe, its hardly traditional chocolate box either but the skiing is great and its well priced.

Well done Geo. Great that you had a brilliant time, and are now well and truly hooked

I'm with Tony, on this, go somewhere pretty next time. I'm a Switzerland fan personally, plenty of pretty resorts that won't strip out your wallet!

For France I'd suggest Morzine, Les Gets or Chatel. These are resorts that have a life outside of the ski season, and easy access from Geneva.
