Having been disappointed trying to take video with a camcorder whilst skiing, I bought myself a little Christmas present this year.
Its a "Drift Innovation X170 Action Camera". Basically a compact, robust little video camera that comes complete with a clip that goes on your goggles strap or a headband or can be fixed to a helmet. It has a simple wireless remote control and a wide angle lens to give a sense of perspective and speed. The results are great, especially when strapped to my boot to give a worms eye view of the piste!
Well worth £200 if you like that sort of thing.
And no, I don't work for them!

Aldi were offering a webcam for about £60 ~ but no stock. -(
I can manage video footage from my camera, but would like "a run down the Merkenwiess", so has to have a good fix ~ headband or helmet.
OTOH, I'm into toy reduction. Don't think my ipod is going out to Austria, can play everything from itunes on the laptop, and devour J2ski at the same time. -)
I tried all ways up Tony, to do that. Thats Ok if you just want to ski slowly with two sticks in one hand, and the camera in the other. What I want is an ealy morning, empty mountain, fast run down. I can watch all summer, and dream. For this kind of run, both hands are firmly glued to the sticks!
I am open to suggestions though. Previous cameras have had clips on each side that you could put a strap through, but on modern cameras, there is just no room for any kind of bracket attachment.
Headcam is your best bet. Some of the footage is outstanding. I understand for a solid mount a helmet is ideal ;)

Any footage from it? The best footage I have seen is either from the VIO POV 1.5 or the Contour HD...

You dont need a fixed cam for that. Do what I do, a la Graham Bell and ski it with a handheld in one hand.Dave Mac wrote:

Mr Bell manages it in full tuck position with 1 pole and the cam in the other hand. I manage to ski fast enough with a camera in one hand, although it is admittedly not quite flat out as you would be perhaps.
Give it a try, see how you feel, it might work out nicely.
Ideally you need someone (I have Jan in mind here) who can ski fast and would be adept with cam in hand, to follow you down and video YOU doing said run. Something to treasure for ever maybe.

I have seen some head cam results and you will not be surprised at the amount of sky shots you take, it needs a touch of practice
