We are planning our honeymoon for next winter. When does the season start and how early in the season can we go and be assured good snow cover? We were planning mid december. Plan on staying at the Kempinski. Any other suggestions? Thank you so much.

Most resorts open the week before Xmas generally, no one can predict snow cover at any time of the year, but if you are not able to change the dates, you might consider other places where snow might be more guaranteed. Either that or be prepared for some lifts and pistes not to be open. On the other hand, it might be fantastic. There is just no way of guaranteeing it.

Like Tony says no resort can 100% guarantee opening dates.
However, St. Moritz usually tends to open with a ski race through the streets on the last weekend in November. They also have glacier skiing in Dievolezza which opened already in October this season. Due to the altitude (the town is at 1800m) they can usually start to lay down snow for the pistes quite early. I've been mountainbiking up in the ski area in mid October in the past and they already had the snow cannons ready to be turned on. It was 3 degrees up there that day a few degrees colder and they could have been laying cover for the pistes.
Enjoy the Kampinski, the closest I have ever gotten or will ever get is the campsite about 300m out the road from it.
