Hi,

I'm leaving for a week in Bardonecchia on Jan 31st. Has anyone been yet this season? Can anyone recommend any good bars and restaurants. Is it expensive this year due to the weak Pound? Any tips on the skiing. I've not been here before so a little advice would be gratefully received.

Mary

I haven't been this season but learnt to snowboard there last year. Can't comment a great deal on the skiing - I normally ski in La Plagne and compared to there the range seemed limited but that was as a learner so maybe we were kept in a limited area, and nevertheless I'm sure there is plenty there to ski.

I don't have any specific recommendations but I can tell you that the entire resort seemed reasonable. In the town the restaurants weren't any more expensive than a non-ski resort and if money's tight you can get decent pizza slices etc. for a couple of euros.

Food and drinks on the mountain are also pretty decent value. We never get lunch on the mountain in France but did so every day there - we shared a large pizza (enough for 3 or 4) which was only around 10-12 Euros. Bottle of coke 1.50 etc. That was from the restaurant adjacent to the ski school (and nearest to the chairlift) but the others seemed similar. Vin Chaud and beer was only a couple of Euros in most places.....
Bon. Allez!

Hi Mekka

Just returned today from Bardonecchia, they currently have great snow conditions and it was snowing lightly this morning as we left. Prices generally are very reasonable €1-€2 for coffee on the mountain depending how you like your coffee. Not really a big drinker but roughly €3.5-5 for a large beer. Paid €4.75 for a 1/4 slice of a large pizza & coffee at the cafe bar near the Ski School at Campo Smith, but as we were half board at our hotel we tended to snack on Snickers bar and cereal bars that we took with us from the UK.

During the week you will find the slopes virtually empty but with good snow it is completely packed on a Saturday and Sunday. There are some lovely cruisy blues and reds, although dependant on your abilities some of the blues can be quite challanging.

When we have unpacked the cameras I will post a couple of current pics.

:)

I can't wait to get there now. Only 2 weeks to go....
