J2Ski

Hi all,
This year I'm looking to be treated to new ski boots! :) I have skiied for several years in a pair of ex hire boots that have been fine except that they have no capacity for opening the back angle when walking so walking anywhere is excruciating as I have some knee problems. :( I am a novice skiier (been going to France and Sunshine for 5 years, but lack confidence) of average height, weight (and income!). I will have a proper boot fitting of course, probably in Banff (at Ultimate Ski?), but just wondered if anyone has any good recommendations or info?

Sunshine in Banff is my favourite place in the galaxy!! :D

Thanks loads

Welcome to J2ski :D Buy the boots that fit you properly. Let a fitter do their job, and don't have any preconceived ideas about brand or features. I owned boots with a "walk" mode many years ago, it's a waste of a good shell as it creates a weakness at the ankle. Ask your fitter to advise the best way of walking in your new boots.
I have been to advised to walk with my boots done up. That also includes skinning up using alpine boots.

By all accounts www.fitcentre.ca is the place to go in Banff, plenty patrollers/instructors are regulars.

Recommendations or Info? Take a 6pack of beer when you go in for the fitter and enjoy the process 8)

I would make an appointment before you arrive, sometimes they are fairly busy ;)

JoJo,

welcome to the mad house... the place you are looking to go is about as good as it gets in that resort, get an appointment before you go sorted with Dave... as has been said get what fits your foot not the colour that you like

good luck

Hi all,
Thanks for this. I joined J2ski last year - it's a great fix when you're waiting to get on the hill! I'm not a very good skier but am just crazy for the space and the vibe..... and Canada (we have been six times in the last 3 years - three for skiing).
Thanks for the info re boots - my other passion is my horse, so I know about getting the right stuff and not just what is cool at the time. But I really do find it really bad walking in the boots, even just gondola to hill etc. This makes much more of an impact on me even than the sore muscles from days skiing. Any ideas?

In recommending the fit centre I should probably mention that I had my boots done at Monods and they have been awesome. Can't give you a particular name unfortunately.
