Hi,
Thinking off a weeks cheap skiing in Isola 2000 mid Jan 2010.
Myself and family begginers and intermediates. Just wondered if anyone would care to share any views on this resort, likelyhood of snow and suitability of skiing. Looks OK (but not brilliant) from what I've read so far but would like any opinions.
many Thanks
Andrew

Sounds like the same avalanche that kept us out of the resort for 2 days in Feb. When we finally got up there I was amazed at the amount of snow they had, there was about 2 meters of snow sat on the roof of parked cars and roudabouts that looked like great white towers where they'd cleared the snow off the road around them.
As for the resort, it was not too busy and very safe for kids. My only niggles were with the antiquated ski passes and the fact that our hotel was on the hill and not down in the town. We had to queue for a funicular several times a day to get to and from the hotel. This soon gets tiresome, especially when your kid forgets something just before their ski lesson.

Hi David, I went to Isola about 5 years ago for 6 days and had a great time. It was only my second week of skiing and I really enjoyed it as most of the mountain is easy enough and by the sounds of your group would be perfect with plenty to keep you happy for the week. The snow record is excellent as the resort is at 2000mts and you should have no problems in January. All of the accomodation is in about 4 or 5 hotels that are all linked together and there not great and the resort is far from pretty. Mind you there is ski in & ski out in pretty much every hotel and if your kids are young it would be very safe. Price wise is same as rest of France ie; not cheap at all, about 7 or 8 euro for a beer.
Its very easy to get there as the bus goes from Nice airport and only takes about 1 hour 40mins.
I was there in Jan and it was seriously cold every day.
I liked it but would only go for a quick weekend now but for your needs it sounds spot on.
Gar.

When in doubt?....Flat out.

My mates went last season and had to pay 300 euros each to be helicoptered out of the resort as they got snowed in and ran out of food and provisions. The one who hired the car stayed another 5 days but no lifts or pistes were open. The snow record is, clearly, not bad.
Its not a huge area but would keep early intermediates and beginners happy, as long as you dont mind the fact you are in France of course )

Isola 2000 is great. You'll have a good time. You also have the village of Auron only 10min up the road that offers some more challenging terrain and the village is nicer. Best of luck!
