Saalbach is making one of the biggest ever investments in a chairlift this summer to upgrade the Hasenauerköpfl from a quad chair to a state of the art eight seater chairlift with pull down bubble weather-protection covers. The 7m Euro lift will also have heated seats.

The new lift is one of three the resort, one of Austria's largest and most popular, is installing ahead of winter 2009-10. A further 5m Euros is being spent on a six-seater chairlift with orange panorama bubbles, heated seats and safety loops to replace the Turmlift.

Finally 1,.4m Euros is being spent on upgrading the Almlift, formerly a T-bar, in linked Leogang, to a quad chair.

Saalbach is also making on-going investments in snowmaking which covers 90% of its 200km of slopes which are served by 55 modern cable-ways and lifts. The resort also boasts 10km of cross-country tracks , a carving funpark, half pipes, GS race courses, flood-lit slope, mogul runs and snow parks.

Good to see that a resort in Austria are spending some money to remove antiquated old "T" bars,

I have been living out here for 3 years now... every summer there has been major investment and improvements in the areas in Salzburgerland.

The first year there was a new 8 man heated and covered chair put into Wagrain (this one was to replace a T'bar!) plus a new Gondola in Alpendorf.

Last year was a biggy. Eben had a revamped/new chair at the bottom plus a brand new chair at the top, plus a funpark added to the pistes.
Hauser Kaibling / Schladming had a new piste and lift put in to service it (which is 3 chairs and then a gondola... very cool!)
Wagrain also had revamped gondolas ready for the next stage.

This year in Zauchensee/Flachau Winkl, there is a replacement gondola and a replacement covered chair.
In flachau there is a new chairlift to take you up to the top.
Wagrain has a new gondola station plus a new chairlift to take you halfway up because...

Next year there will be a new cable car to zoom you accross the valley from Wagrain Graffenburg to Flachau - this years' new chair will be an access point from the valley to this new cable ca.

That will really open up the area.

The Gasteins have also had a lot of mone spent on them...

So I think Salzburgerland is realy pulling stops out!

All sounds funky to me, be there 12th December for a week of downhill madness, fine dining and après ski silliness.

It's on my radar too, Tino, probably mid Jan. Tends to be an expensive valley, but have located a low cost place, good location, doesn't have rage reviews though.

Hurrah!

Although we always chose this chair rather than the stand-up four many gondola next to it, it is probably one of the slowest chairs I've ever been on - and three man too. What's that all about?

The six seater will be a great improvement.

They must have one of the highest ratio of heated to none heated seats by now...

Unusual to actually find a resort in Austria with some!

Shame the French dont follow this trend of installing modern lifts.
