Austria's Kaunertal glacier will officially open for the 2009-10 snow sports season on October 16th, with an opening festival weekend running through to the 18th. It's one of the earliest opening dates for a northern hemisphere resort.
The event will include snowboard and freeski contests, concerts and parties as well as the "Testival" which includes brand new material for the 09/10 season.
The full programme is now online at http://www.kaunertal-opening.at/

It does nicely demonstrate that UK skiers are fed a diet of specific resorts. Only with a car, or a desire to explore the railway systems will we get to see more of European skiing :D

Once I'd found the English button, this site kept me engaged for quite a while. They have a really well developed organisation, it's a pretty comprehensive site, and I'm feeling like I've missed out by not visiting...yet :D
Can't do the opening party though :( ...Tino???
