Fresh snow in Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and Chile has been reported in the past week. Virtually all of the southern hemisphere's ski areas, including Tiffindell in South Africa, are now open.

In South America snow conditions are good at many resorts in Argentina and Chile.

In Australia the Heavenly Valley chair started turning for the first time this season last Saturday after over half a metre (20 inches) of snow dumped on Hotham in Australia in a 48 hour period. Keen skiers and boarders heading out for first tracks on Hotham's signature terrain and what is arguably some of Australia's best black diamond terrain. The lift will open everyday and for first tracks at 7.30am from Wednesdays to Sundays all season long (snow and weather permitting).

Many of New Zealand's resorts got a good amount of new snow early in the week. This took the base to 134cm (4.5 feet) at Turoa and 91cm (3 feet) at Whakapapa for example.
Snow Park NZ was the latest resort to open, last Saturday 4 July, with good fresh snow coverage across the terrain park and new features introduced. Night skiing and riding sessions kicked off twice weekly, on Tuesday (7 July).

Mt Hutt reported receiving 50cm (20 inches) of new snow at the start of the week and 74cm (2.5 feet) in the last week and is now boasting a good base of 150cm (five feet) with more snow forecast for the next couple of days.

"Everyone was beaming ear-to-ear today as they skied knee-deep powder," said Dave Wilson, Ski Area Manager. "Awesome snow falling with little wind has created near-on perfect conditions at Mt Hutt for the school holidays."

Hello everybody, from Melbourne, Australia.
Just back last night from 4 days up at Mt. Buller. A white out everyday with a few
glimpses of sun in total for 1.5 hours. A hail storm is raging outside at moment. DAMM!!!!!
Just heard the news, England survives to draw 1st Test. What the??????????
Geoff Boycott, playing again???????
That was for your benefit Wickers.

50cms of snow greeted my girls and me. The eldest tried snowboarding like her converted boarding
younger sibling. One lesson it lasted, the following 3 days she had ski lessons and is hooked
and pleased as punch with her grasp and abilities. I will try to post some photos, I hope I
meet the requirements of size. My only regret is that i was unable to further my abilities with
lessons or time to myself. I had to mind and support the girls. I will go again next month for a week
locally or wait for early September in New Zealand.

Great to hear from you mate I just caught the end of the Test highlights last night, If you can't bowl out Monty whom I'm suprised was holding the bat the right way round, I think we got out of jail and our best is yet to come...I don't know if you saw Ricky Pontings face after the draw, well he was fuming.
I'm pleased you have some great snow and I promise not to take the Mick too much when we hand out a cricket lesson to you at Lords starting Thursday.

It is amazing how Punter Ponting is so one dimensional in his
emotions. I am not a big cricket fan, but I enjoy this rivalry
between OZ and Blighty.

It is amazing, that today another 20cms has fallen throughout the
local Victorian highlands and more forecast for the week.
