We have had several over the years but the one that stands out for both of us is our first ever trip to Axamer Lizum/Austria. Went on an evening trip advertsised as adults only, sleigh ride with refreshments, duration 2hrs, cost 15 euros each.
Picked up at our hotel by FRITZ in a large carriage with a team of 8 horses. Fritz was a typical Austrian fella, strapping guy, traditional clothes, Austrian accent but with fairly good english. He took us hurtling over fields, hills, all the while telling raucaus jokes in Austrian with the punch lines in english, all the while yodelling and thigh slapping. At the same time continually passing a bottle around for us all to partake, I imagine it was his home-made moonshine, firewater if you ask me.
He taught all of us how to yodel. Took us all through the next two villages, not forgetting to point out the local landmarks but dishing the dirt on the local residents, my there was some stories there.
Then we pulled into the most beautiful place I have ever seen. It was huge made entirely of hand carved wood and structures, absolutely amazing. It was Fritz's own place. The top floor was his living quarters and the bottom was divided into two, one half full of stables for his horses, the other half a bar/stube. This was gorgeous all hand carved and wood again with a blazing fire. We were all plied with Gluwein laced with moonshine continually.
Then the music fun started, he pulled out an accordion, his son a banjo. Played a few typical Austrian tunes, we were all tapping and clapping, then one by one he got us up to play another instrument. They were all handmade instruments, tamborines, whistles, washboard, spoons, marraccas, drums and bin bags.
I got to play bin bags, one big, one small, they were partially filled with air and then tied up, I had to play the small bag between my knees and larger bag in my arms. Bin bags make the funniest sounds but fit in well with the sciffle type music.
All the while still plying every-one with homemade moonshine, of which I am sure we should have been paying for but no-one took any money. Then beautiful pastries and cakes, which again we did,t pay for and they tasted of moonshine as well.
At one stage me and two other women were stood on tables behind Fritz as his backing yodellers. Three hours past and Fritz's wife who must have been in the upstairs quarters kept coming down, opening a sliding hatch at the side, poking her head in, shouting something in Austrain and waving her hands, Fritz just made rude hand gestures to her and carried on, it was hilarious.
After the Austrian music, we then all taught Fritz some english song and dance, I do believe Agadoo and the birdy song came into, I know YMCA did and we taught him how to do a mexican wave and the conga.
By this time it was midnight, so we all sadly had to go home, back across the snowy fields, only not quite so fast this time, still yodelling, still telling jokes and still sipping from the moonshine bottle. Absolutely fantastic evening, if you ever go to Axamer be sure to ask for Fritz.

Possibly my wifes 40th in St Anton this Jan. We skied all day, had a couple of apres beers in the usual place, went back to the chalet and all dressed up as cowboys with my OH in a cow costume, and took a piste basher up to a mountain restaurant, where we had a superb and enormous feast including fondu, went back down on the psite basher and hit a few bars in town for drinks. Nothing particularly spectacular happened, suffice to say it was a thoruoghly enjoyable and memorable night out, which also seemed to attract a lot of interest from other people!

It should be pointed out that a couple of well known J2skiers were also involved in the mayhem that night, including

Ellistine:

and Skidaddle:

Happy days....

Ellistine was so drunk he had to bail early doors. But he was up bright and early in the morning for the first lift, as was Mrs H to be fair!
