Ok, just planning ahead for next season. I intend to make 3 trips if possible, and my I will select from Austria, France, Switzerland and Italy.
I have done some research and checked out WTSS, and my shortlist has been drawn up. Here are my selctions for Switzerland. I would be most grateful if anyone who has been to all/some/any of these resorts would give me some feedback.
I am looking for info on the ski area in terms of ease of access, possibly ski back to resort, lift queues, snow, and any other useful info you wish to share.
I have selected the resorts based on their access to reasonably sized ski areas and offering suitable accommodation and atmosphere for me.
Heres the Swiss selection:

Laax/Flims
Klosters
Andermatt
Crans-Montana
Zermatt
Wengen

Thanks in advance.

I've been to all the resorts except Crans-Montana

Laax/Flims

Plenty of skiing areas, but in my view overrated. It gets very crowded on weekends in high season and is really best known for the fun park/half pipe area that hosts the Burton European Open every January. There is relatively easy access up to the resort from both Flims and Laax and you can ski right back down to the valley in both places.

This is a large area which takes in Davos too. The Parsenn skiarea is shared by Davos/Klosters, but you can get individual daycards for the Jacokshorn and Madrisa areas too. The three areas are not connected together, but each one in itself is big enough to have a good day on. The place gets busy in high season, and you can expect ques getting from the valley up to the ski area from Klosters on a busy day. The run from Parsenn back down to Klosters is really nice.

Quite a large area but fairly spread out. You need to get a train up to the main area from the town which takes a bit of time, but there is really nice skiing around the Sedrun area of the resort. The Gemstock area is not connected in and does not have that many lifts. It is fairly well known locally as a freeride area but the terrain can be steep and prone to avalanche (so I've heard, haven't freerided there myself).

Never been.

Amazing area, views of the Matterhorn from the town nice ski area, but not all of it was open either time I was there as it was not high season. It is very similar to Saas-Fee in all respects except the view of the Matterhorn. Its a car free village but look out for the silent electro cars that pounce on you out of nowhere.

AFAIK if you get more then three days together you can use the Murren/Schilthorn area and Grindelwald too (might have to pay a little extra), but all these areas together give a huge area with an amazing diversity of conditions.

Klosters, skied round to here from Davos, superb conditions, didn't seem crowded when I was there, but I prefer low season skiing. Long, long runs.

Crans-Montana skied a few weeks here, slopes can be quiet as the holidaymakers don't seem to ski unless the sun is out, and even then they prefer a decent deckchair and a large speciality coffee.
Little steep skiing on piste, offpiste remains largely untouched due to the lack of available deckchairs.
Lots of hotels, not seen any chalets, lots of self catering apts. Easy access from GVA. South facing, very sunny resort.
It is a town, not a village, and even has a Casino.

Zermatt Huge alpine village, lots of smart hotels, no cars, but lots of electric taxis. Arrive by train as it's the only way.
Spread out lift system, stunning scenery. Pricey on and off the slopes, the McDo's is well utilised.
Ski to Cervinia for the day, for a decent coffee )
Lots of tourists, year round, all taking the same photo of the Matterhorn and screaming in unison in the cable cars  Tons of alpine history everywhere you look in the village. Some spectacular queues, I saw one sign on a wall "20 minutes from here".
It's an allround experience as a resort. Swiss German speaking.

I agree completely with Bandit for both Crans and Zermatt. I probably don't need to say but Zermatt can be very expensive, depends if you are really keen to ski near the Matterhorn. I went up in the Summer on the train, two trains we parked slightly further down the mountain, it cost from memory for 6 of us, 4 adults and two little children about £170, can anyone tell me if this is about right?.

Have a great hols. :D

I've ruled out Switzerland out for the next trip now because of cost of holidays to go, and also the concern I have over queuing and length of time to get up the mountain in Zermatt.

That's a shame, Tone. I've come round more and more to Switzerland as a skier making my own arrangements it works out less expensive than France - and the quality of service is so much better.

Zermatt is one of the world's classic resorts- and should be sampled at least once in a lifetime (although I accept it is seriously expensive when you get there!)
