Hi can anyone help me.We are due to fly out to Saalbach on 31st Jan (2009)and have yet to book skis and lift pass. Does anyone know where I can get a good deal either by booking this side or when I get there.I cannot find anywhere that you can book both together. Is this a good idea, they all say they offer ? % offbut will the reps get a better deal as normal? I know I have left it a bit late.

Lift passes are generally pretty well set price wise so i just pick up in resort (though the way the £ has weakend since brochures were printed it might be worth checking out any deal with your travel company).

I have my own kit, but if I'm hiring for my daughters I always book in advance after being stung when waiting till in resort a few years ago. I guess I maybe have got a better price if I'd taken a bit more time and wandered round the resort haggling, but lets face it - who wants to waste vauable ski time doing that once you get there - you just want to clip on those skis and GO!

I've always got a fair price by searching online and comparing a few suppliers - many shops will appear on various different sites and it's amazing how the price can vary , so don't just grab the first one. Alsio check that everything is included, sometimes it looks like it boots/skis/poles, but actually you have to tick another box to get the 'with boots' price.

Good luck anyway, I may see you on the piste as I'm in Zell am See just up the road from 1/3 - 5/3 and plan to spend a day skiing over in Saalbach and checking out a few chalets fro a group trip next year.

Chers Dave, thanks for the info. WE were married in Zell in 2001. Biggest group Crystal had ever done. Try the roast chicken at the top in Zell. You get to dance on the table whilst your eating as they have a DJ spinning some sounds all day. THanks again.

I got a bit soft spot for Zell, it's where I learnt to ski 4 years ago and always try and get back at least once in a season even if only for a short break.

Skied S-H about 3 years ago. We were with Thomson, they use the sports shop right in the middle of Saalbach but I had a bad experience there where the guy was very impatient (and the shop was not busy) and because he had no boots to fit me (size 7 or 8)he made me take a size 10 - well you can imagine my first day skiing around in what equated to buckets on my feet, I took them back (on the ski bus) later that day and he still had none in, so I had to go back again the next day (and took the rep with me!) and somehow - he went to the back of the shop and appeared with some Dabellos - I got a reasonably comfortable pair of boots (and feet covered in compeed blister plasters from the day before). I know there is a ski hire shop between the Hotel Austria on the way to Saalbach that lots of others (and locals) use, so this may be better - can't remember its name but it is on the left hand side as you go to Saalbach - but people were pleased with the service - which is what you are paying for at the end of the day - and a comfy pair of boots!

Avoid Mr Angry at all costs!!!
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!
