Hi All, I'm a newbie. :D

I have organised a group trip to Les Gets for the first week of February for a party of 10 (self catering chalet - Chalet Charmottes) Anybody stayed here????. I have never taken a group to the Alps before and I am after general tips/information about the Les Gets area. We have purchased the PDS pass and most are experinced skiers. Which areas would be best for us, I understand that the Les Gets/Morzine areas may not hold much of a challenge to the more experinced skiers amongst us. Any tips/info gratefully received especially any money saving tips on eating/drinking etc.... :wink:

Hello, :wink:

You will have a lovely time. Don't recognise the name of the chalet but there's a fair few in Les Gets - although it's a small-ish town. Okay I will try and answer your questions;

Which areas would be best for us, I understand that the Les Gets/Morzine areas may not hold much of a challenge to the more experinced skiers amongst us. :lol:

Well I wouldn't exactly say that, it's more what you can get round. The Les Gets and Morzine areas are challenging and great skiing but if you are good can be done in a few days. you want to make sure you do;

Trip to Chatel
Trip to Switzerland
The Les Gets bowl has some awesome reds and a black feeding in - it's defo worth a day pottering - perhaps to limber up first day?
A few trips to Avoriaz and play around up there.
Chamoissiere (although part of Morzine area)
Point Du Nyon (again Morzine area)

any money saving tips on eating/drinking etc

hmmm....well that all depends if you are fully catered? If so get some sandwiches made at breakfast time and take some fruit, pastries etc. The self service place at the top of the Les Gets bubble is pretty cheap and does great chips/sausage. Once you must go to the restaurant at the top of La Rosta with the fabulous hamburgers though - it's expensive but by 'eck it's goregous! :D

If you are self catered then try to go into Morzine to buy your food at the bigger supermarket as it will be cheaper. or i'm sure there's a massive hypermarket near samoens on the way in from Geneva. Even if you are catered - might be worth stopping there to get some lunch stuff. :?:

Drinking/eating out in les gets can be pricey - we found in morzine it was 7e a pint of guiness so not shy of £7! think the x-rate is a bit better now but still! I would keep your eye out for drinks promos though or take a wee hip flask of voddie out to the pub! (very chavvy i know but the prices are outrageous!) :roll:

there's a lovely pizza place next to the ice-rink - L'Optraken think it's called. VERY yummy pizzas and stuff. not overly expensive.

Have fun! i've loved the times I spent in Les Gets and the snow is great, the runs are good, there's plenty in the local area so you will be fine!
