I have snowboarded a few times in the past and borrowed a friend's goggles.

This time I am going to learn to ski and the friend moved (with the goggles) to Australia so I can't borrow them.

Can someone advise whether I should try and get myself some goggles (and if so, where do I start) or will I be ok in sunglasses?

I am concerned that as a contact lens wearer I need to wear something but sunglasses maybe not the best idea if it is not sunny.

Also, has anyone tried the handwarmers that Snow & Rock sell? Can you put them in your pockets all day long?

Thanks,
Rachel

As a contact lense wearer I prefer goggles as you dont get wind coming in round the sides making your eyes water. I started with some cheap ones from TK Maxx, which were fine.

I'm also a contact lens wearer and tend to take both goggles and sunglasses with me but prefer wearing goggles because, as clairehb0 says, they stop your eyes watering when there's a bitterly cold wind. I got mine as a Christmas present, think they're Scott.

Thanks for your advice. I have found a pair which is relatively cheap with amber lenses. Is that the colour lens to go for?

Yes amber is good for dull days or in sunshine. Have fun.

Sunglasses are okay if you go slowly.

Any speed requires goggles to avoid wind, regardless of contact lenses.

Thanks Claire. I am going to get some from e-bay as they are cheap and the guy has great feedback. The brand is Slokker, which I have to say I don't recognise. They are UV400 polycarbonate lens and the seller says that they are shatterproof.

Goggles in non sunlight and on particularly cold days. If its blue skies and sun, it has to be glasses.
