Hi all,

Hope someone can give me a few answers about the area. We're staying in Auffach for a week in March but want to do most of the skiing around Niederau itself. Is it quicker getting the free ski-bus or taking the car and parking in Niederau? And whats parking like (price, volume and busy-ness)in the village itself?

The niederau website talks about the guest card in general terms but how does one get one of these?

The last question - would people recommend hiring ski's in Auffach when skiing in Niederau, or can I hire in Niederau and leave the kit in the hiring shop in Niederau overnight to pick it up in the morning?

Thanks for any help.

The 2 resorts are on the same lift pass, and are only 7km apart. If you have a car, use that to get about between the 2 places. It will be much quicker. Car parking at the lift stations is free.

You will probably fill in a guest card at your property in Auffach.

Niederau is a tiny place so you wont need to worry about it being busy or queuing.

Hi

Just to add,
We went to niederau last week in feb last year but free bused to Auffach mostly cos enjoyed skiing better.
There were massive queues both ways at the peak times in morning and afternoon and was a mass bundle to get on bus but they were actually very regular anyway. Took skies on bus and at times was awkward but ok.
However things obviously may be different in March!

Can i ask where you are staying in Auffach??

When I mentioned queues, I meant getting up the lifts.
I cant answer re the ski bus, but if you have a car, I would drive it yourself. It would be much quicker and easier.

the bus from niederau to auffach at about 9.15am will be packed, but that from auffach to niederau will be a dream!
the lift queues to get up to and on the gondola at auffach will be just horrendous.
better to ski in niederau; drive there if possible, takes only 10 minutes. no car parking charges. car park next to gondola station in niederau. L.

I enjoyed the easier skiing in Niederau and the easier reds in Auffach, although trying to ski back down to the bottom in a white out was a bit of a challenge! Try both, start off in Niederau and build up to Auffach for the latter part of the week. Good place!
Rather a bad day on the slopes than a good day in the office!

If you are having a week, I would suggest using Niederau as your warm up first couple of days, and then progress to the more spread out runs at Auffach, where theres a lot more to go at. You might even want to buy a 3 or 4 day lift pass, and then go off and explore other areas too, as theres a lot close by.

Auffach queues were only bad over Xmas week when I was there at around 10am. Get there for first lift, and you will be fine. We queued for 20 minutes to get on the gondola, but thats not too bad for that time of year.

Dont get put off the idea of skiing Auffach, as it really is the best of the Wildschonau.

Sorry Tony, but are you saying that Auffach has better skiing than Niederau ?
