I'm trying to find somewhere in Austria for a pretty competent but nervous skier - been four times now and all i want (!) is a resort with some fairly wide, true blue runs preferably back to the village (but not essential). I prefer to build my confidence cruising and mastering the blues rather than testing my bravery on narrow red runs!

I have been to St Johann and loved it some am looking for something similar for anyone who knows the resort.

I've come across Neukirchen which i have never heard of but seems to be pretty good for what i am looking for and i'm also considering Scheffau and Kaprun and Fieberbrunn.

Any thoughts/advice would be most welcome.

Many thanks

obergurgl and, in particular, hochgurgl is full of wide cruisy blues. it's where I learnt and I'd highly recommend it.

I've also been reading up on cervinia in italy. It's described by "where to ski and snowboard" as miles of long, consistently gentle runs - ideal for early intermediates and anyone wary of steep slopes or bumps

it sounds like a real confidence boosting place as they overgrade the pistes, ie: the reds are really blues. physcologically good I think. I'm considering it for next year. it's also linked to zermatt so, if you suddenly become ultra confident you can give that a go too.

good luck

We have been to Neukirchen twice, it is a fairly small resort with around 60kms of piste (as far as I can remember). We really like it, the village isn't too big with bit a of nightlife if you want it. The run back to the village is red with a short black which you can bypass. There is a blue run that takes you to a resturant and they will run you back into the village in their minibus.
There is a tobbogan run (brilliant) of about 14kms to the next village then catch the bus back.
