Re:Help with technique

Hi peeps

Not a very good skier so thought I would look for some advice on how to improve.

I know that the camera work was done by some with the DT's so it is difficult to see but can anyone offer any hints on how I could improve.

I think that I have one turn stronger than the other judging by the plumes of snow?

My section starts at 03:04. The snow boarder comment at the end is a joke in case anyone takes offence.

Any advice greatfully accepted even if it is to give up and go home. :D

Thanks for the advice but don't have a choice spending money on new ski boots instead. Maybe I will ski in the buff maybe able to do some pole plants then. :D

Hard to see much in the video, but it looks like there is very little angulation.

you need to be more like Barry Sheen

less like Mike Hailwood

Yeah never never been that good at getting my knee down either. My angulation is better on my CRF though, I think foot out style is more my thing. Hang on a minute, aren't we on a ski site. :)

Just noticed, Jerseyman ay. I've wheeled a few freesias in my time (Guernsey though)

I would only make suggestions on the carving part of your vid. It was indeed hard to see, but it looked like you were carving and using the sidecut of the skis to make long turns. So you do know what the sidecut is for, which is good. You did look a little stiff (straight) and I would suggest trying to incorperate some vertical movement. I wrote a bit about this for Mike recently http://www.j2ski.com/ski-chat-forum/posts/list/4328.page
It's very hard to figure out angulation when you are actually skiing. Too much going on to try to contort your body into an unnatural position. So I would practice the position at home a bit in front of a mirror. look at some pics of GS racers and try to get in the same position. You'll need to put your skis on and sit on stools or boxes. Notice how your body feels, what's stretched and twisted. Then try to recreate that position in your turns. Hope that helps.

Bloody donkey's.

Great technique and explanation. I was wondering how you can acheive the up and down movement when carving and this makes perfect sense. I think I might get a lesson next time I am away as I think it is hard to know what you are doing wrong when you can't see yourself.

By the way you can ski dude. :D

The basics are there just think about getting forward in the ski and initiating the turns with a pole plant, the pole plant will help to get your weight onto the turning ski. And then lessons, lessons and more lessons.
