Deal of the day????

I've just booked a week for myself and my son, to La Plagne 1800. Gatwick to Grenoble 28th March 09. Self Catering in a studio for 2. Total price £410 - for both of us.

I think that's a pretty good deal.

I have a warning to... This deal was with First Choice, on their website (although I ended up booking it on the phone) for 2 adults. As there was only myself and my son going, the 'free' child place wasn't available - but if I had booked it on the internet, as 1 adult and 1 child the cost would have been £50 more.... Surely the same price should apply to 2 adults or 1 adult & 1 child.

Apparently their system 'often' makes an error and ends up charging more if a child is travelling with a single adult. My wife dreads the thought of a winter holiday (married her before I found this out) so this is now a regular father / son thing....

Anyway..

They took the booking on the phone - and all is well.

But - just be carefully booking on the web and try all sorts of options to find the best price.

Lookin like the big companies are strugling to fill places already.

I discovered long ago that "free" places for children on self-catering holidays are a complete rip off, the "under occupancy" supplements are huge as they class it as only 2 people occupying a 4 person apartment (don't ask how or why they do this it is just a complete con). It was always cheaper to pay the full adult price for the kids and then sometimes you even get a fourth person discount!!

Another bugbear I have is that "studio" apartments for 2 don't even have a proper bed! :evil:

recently booked skifrance. co.uk for 4 people in fully catered chalet for 280.00 per person inc flights from Manchester, transfers, all food , as much plonk as you can drink for 13 th. Dec 7 days. Been doing same last 4 years and brill snow, empty pistes. great fun.

forgot to say in Plagne Village over 2000 high.

Your spot on with the under occupancy thing Shazzo. It also can apply to Hotels as well and is just the same for summer hols. There is no problem booking kids in has adults unless there are special arrangements for kids like junior ski school or kids clubs. They dont seem to be able to marry up adults and junior "perks" and if you look in the Thomson T&cs it warns of this.

Its the early season deals that no one seems to be taking. I am guessing that the credit crunch is hitting people hard and they simply arent booking up for the trips that they normally would.

In the past, the cheap deals often are for places where they are struggling for snow, but most of those places have got plenty already and will have enough for that time of year.
