where am I going??!

I am off to Hopfgarten on 27th Dec. I know it's part of the skiwelt and near Soll (no umlauts on this keyboard!) but does anyone know which is the corresponding area on the J2SKI snow reports. :?:

We don't (yet!) cover Hopfgarten, but the Snow Report for Westendorf is pretty close and should give you a good idea of conditions (the report will be updated more regularly as the opening day approaches).

If you really want to be correct, you can add an e after the o, so Soell is correct. Soll being a recognised place name would be pretty well acceptable either way. You can actually get umlauts in Word, it's just easier to add the e. Word/Insert/symbol. Söll.


As a slight caution on using Westendorf as a snow condition guide. Hopfgarten slopes face SW, whereas those of Westendorf face north. Since you are going at New Year, and assuming it meets the seasonal average temp, this ought not to be an issue. In March, it certainly can be an issue.

Having said that, Hopfgarten is a good gateway into the Schi-welt. We are in Niederau that week, and plan to take the ten minute journey over to Hopfgarten for a day on the Schi-welt.

Good point Dave... even without the effect of the sun, it's worth noting that different orientations will receive markedly different snow accumulations, and hence have very different snow layers, if the snowfall is accompanied by even the slightest wind.

But I think that's the closest we can get for now... :wink:

will be interesting to see how it is for you shazzo as i go there the following week. i am still struggling to find somewhere to hire skis there.

it will only find soll in some of the online hire shops :(

well looking at the info on that site its approx 88 euros to rent skis and poles for a week. but in a neightbouring resort, Westendorf, i can use the discount available to j2ski users - this will make it 60 euros for the 6 days

how far is westendorf to hopfgarten? is it worth going there to rent my skis?
