Evening all, saw the post by this place offering a 20% discount and am empted for Christmas week.

Accomodation is for 3 (between 20th and 27th December) and seems to be reasonably priced. Its B&B and that suits us as we will be there approx 8 hours a day to sleep.

What I need to know is the exact location of this place, I want to be within reasonable walking distance of the village of an evening.

Anyone know this place, got any inside knowledge? Is it a good idea at Christmas?

Hi tino,

A few points. You can check out the location on:

http://www.auhof.co.uk/new_location.html

Note the offer of a mini-bus service! In reality, it is about a 10 minute walk to the nearest lift, and then only another 3 minutes into the village centre. So you can take advantage of the offer of the minibus when you have your ski gear, and walk in for the evening.

It is at the opposite end of the village to where I normally stay, but you can wlak the length of Niederau in ten minutes. The Auhof is up the hill opposite the main slopes.

There are good pictures of the apartments on Jan's web site. There are great views from the balcony.

Jan and his family are really nice, very helpful, and you are sure to be offered some company for some runs.

If you go on those dates, we will be arriving as you are leaving!

Best wishes

Thanks Dave,

I think I have decided against Niederau for this trip. It seems not to be tremendous for snowboarders. I would do it for a long weekend, but for a week I think I would like somewhere geared more for the boarder.

I have to agree tino, there are flat transfer paths at the top, and a long schuss at the run in to the village. Hard work for boarders. There are still a few boarders that go regularly, including a couple of grizzled Lancashire lads last year, who were fast boarders.

There are a couple of boarding classes in the ski school.

However, Niederau is not somewhere that I would recommend for boarders. Having said that, the boarders do get to go into areas and edges that skiers cannot manage. And they make a great job of widening some of the off piste runs.

There is another solution of course........ it might involve changing your equipment. :-)
