Transfer from Airport to Kaprun

Hi All

I'm new to this skiing lark, first trip to Kaprun at Christmas and I'm really looking forward to it. :lol:

I'm trying to sort out travel from airpot to Kaprun or Zell am See, is there a bus route from the airport? I'm a bit confused cos I thought I had found the bus timetable but when I telephoned the Austrian office they said there was only a train route to Zell. The price I saw was 10.60 euros but the price quoted by them was 19 euros. I looked into taxi prices but we are 2 families (10 in all) and they were ridiculously expensive. Any advice/information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there dont know what airport you are coming into but we had a similar problem in january when we went to Mayrhofen. Easiest option in the end was car hire from Munich airport to the resort.

Thats exactly what I am doing in December. Its costing less for a car for 5 days than it would be for return transfers by train from Munich or Salzburg. I would usually fly into Innsbruck by choice, but thats usually as part of a package and this was DIY.

If memory serves me right Tony you provided me with a lot of good info on Mayrhofen last year that led to the hire of the car!

oops forgot to say we are flying in Salzburg - looks like hiring a car or two might be a better option. Would be be advised to hire tyre chains as well?

I got the train from Salzburg to Zell easily enough. One change only, journey time was about an hour and three quarters. Taxi from Zell to Kaprun - 10 minutes max.

Can you remember how much the train fare was because if its 19.00 euros each way per person we may still be better off hiring as there is 10 of us.
