Had loads of brochures, including some from various resort tourist offices, landing on my doormat over the last week or so - and have been drawn for some reason to Grindelwald, Wengen and Murren.

Have never been there before and would really appreciate any brief tips, ideas, views or suggestions.

One factor is the ability to book indpendently, and the hotels seem to accept unusual bookings, ie not Sat to sat or Sun to Sun only. Also like what looks like the easy rail trip from Zurich via Interlaken.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi LOTA, I enjoyed my time in Wengen some years ago and the Hotel sunstar was great, Good food and spa facilities. Skiing was limited though due to high winds so i didnt get to ski it as much i as would have liked to.

The lift pass cover`s the whole area, Or at least it did when i was there. The transfer from Zurich was fab, Straight off the plane and downstair`s to the train station, To which you only had to change to the finicular in Lauterbrunnen.I did the holiday with Swiss ski and didnt see my luggage from check in at Manchester until i arrived at Wengen,
It all went with out a hitch. The scenery is breathtaking go for it.

Stayed in Grindelwald last January at the Sunstar. Lovely town, fantastic hotel with pool and spa looking out at the Eiger.

We were not able to ski easily into town due to lack of snow but once up to Bort and beyond there's no problem. First ski area is the sunnier side and has some lovely cruisy blues and reds.
Restaurants at First and Shreckfeld are good for a lunchtime stop. Ski school was excellent with creche facilities and restaurant at Bodmi ski area.

Efficient but slow access to Kleine Scheidig area via train opens your ski areas out to let you get down to Wengen. Only went over the once to watch the men's downhill which was amazing. Going back this year same week (10-17 Jan) to ensure we see the racing again.

Loads to do in Grindelwald if you don't ski. Sports centre has skating rink, pool etc. Plenty of walking routes clearly marked and if you don't want to walk you can toboggan. There's also an amazing 15km toboggan route from the Faulhorn I think. Does involve along walk but worth it.

Apres ski is low key, mainly in hotel bars. Transport system runs with typical Swiss efficiency.

Love the place and thoroughly recommend it

Thank you gentlemen.

I agree, AJ, that the railway station at Zurich airport is a fantastic boon to quick transfers.

Jim, the resort sounds just up my alley - and a trip in January looks on the cards.

Any more tips always appreciated!
