Hi All

Took family (all beginners kids 10 & 12) to Zermatt last year & had great experience, looking to go jan next year but Zermatt seems a bit pricey but at least we know what to expect. Would members go back to Zermatt or what other location would they choose/recommend that would give as good an experience?

Austria seems to be popular but travelling from Ireland, places not as easy to get to as UK

Any help appreciated

Well, I'll be in the next valley (or so) over mid to late Jan, but I can't really recommend it, because I'm not sure what made Zermatt a good experience for your family. Let the forum know what you want from your trip :D
I'll be in Zermatt again in November.

Hi Bandit

Overall skiing & access to slopes was good with different levels for adults & kids, also not too crowded.

Scenery breathtaking took train from Zurich.

Hotel & food high standard, wellness centre relaxing after slopes, village interesting.

Not too bothered about night life as 2 kids under 12

Saas-Fee would be worth checking out. Ticks quite a few of your boxes, has much less mileage than Zermatt, but the scenery is stunning. Train as far as Brig, then Postbus. Village is car free like Zermatt.

So between Zermatt & Saas fee which would people choose. Is Niederau a good option?

In a word....YES!!!! Cue various people telling you why......Dave Mac? Jan?

From my experience its a great place, and the ski school (red) are amazing! In fact, I will be off there on the 3rd January hopefully! :D 92 days to go!!!!!

I would find it really hard to choose. I think that the glacier imposes itself on the village far more dramatically in Saas-Fee, but Zermatt has a much bigger tourist vibe. So much going on, hard to fit it all in. Saas-Fee has a more intimate village atmosphere IMV.

Zermatt has the ultimate ....oooohhh photo opportunity of course :D

OK have to weigh up pros & cons of all 3 but ultimately it's the ski experience that counts isn't it?
