Hi

I was wondering if someone could help me please??

My 30th birthday falls over Easter next year (10 - 13 April 2009) and I have invited a group to go skiing. The group will be all levels of skiers, snowboarders and non-skiers. I want to go somewhere in Europe.

As it is quite late in the season I am thinking a glacier to ensure snow but I also need somewhere relatively inexpensive and not too far from an airport but I also need somewhere with decent nightlife.

Please can anyone suggest somewhere?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi emma909, welcome :D As your birthday falls during the Easter Weeks, the Swiss resorts will generally be pricing their accommodation as peak weeks, so I'm not sure if you will achieve the relatively inexpensive bit. I would suggest that Zermatt, Saas Fee or Engelberg would meet the needs of the whole group.

I'd try Zermatt for April skiing thats your safest bet.

I skied Verbier late March/early April this year, got a really good deal too, but Easter week is always really expensive, and often not the greatest conditions. Hence your request for a glacier resort I guess.
I can only suggest you consider Zermatt, Kaprun (Austria), Hintertux (bottom end of the valley from Mayrhofen, Austria), Tignes (France), Alpe d'Huez (France), Val Thorens (France).
I am sure there are other places to recommend, but these will give you something to look at.
Be prepared for silly prices though.

Emma, welcome to J2ski.

I get to be very fortunate in that my birthday always falls in January, and I celebrate it in the Bichlwirt, Niederau. My ski buddy Mel, always gives me a little pressy. Unfortunately for Mel, I don't know when his birthday is, cos it ain't in the ski season, and that's the only time we meet up.

Coming back to your issue. What about a practical solution ~ time shift your b/d ski celebration to a couple of weeks earlier. All the resorts are open, there are heaps of deals, probably half of the Easter price.

How will you justify the timeshift? Easy. Set up a minimum of four birthday celebrations, maybe five. Do them with old friends, workmates, old schoolmates, relatives, ski friends. You will be so busy, you have to space out the events....

I am lucky too, birthday in January so always celebrate it in the mountains. My 50th was spent in Seefeld, continually new snow coming down it was lovely. We always stay at the same hotel and they always give me flowers, champagne and chocs. Last year they put a chocolate fountain on our table..............fantastic. Plus I adore swarovski jewellery, no better place than Innsbruck to get my birthday pressie.
I'm a laydee
