Hello again

As you know my hubby and 2 of my kids are having lessons in niederau. my 13 year old nephew is also coming with us so I will be skiing with him but what I want to know is how to combine skiing with my hubby and kids and will i have time to do it? they are having lessons in the morning and afternoon and i dont think hubby will be impressed that I will be off skiing all day whilst he is in lessons "on his own". so I want him to feel that we will be spending some time skiing as a family.

I was thinking of maybe on day 4 taking them out of the lessons in the afternoon to ski together as they will have got the hang of some of the moves (fingers crossed) but I dont really want to stop them from learning. I think that if they are to ski during dinnertime or after the lessons it will either be too slushy or they will be too knackered.

Any ideas? sorry if i have not got my point over well enough. I know what I mean it is just trying to explain it in words.

Ski all day on your own or meet some skiers of your own standard, and meet your other half for a beer at tea time. Tell him when he is as god as you are, he can come and play with the big hills.

Karen you can alway`s lunch together and then ski after ski school finish`s. He`ll be dyeing to show you what he`s learnt and the lift`s dont close until about 4.0.clock.

Seriously, when I was learning, my Mrs skied with my mate, and I skied with them during the afternoon for a couple of hours. Looking back, and having skied with people who were a rubbish as I was then, I bet they wished I hadnt bothered!

Karen,

It is better not to try and micro-manage a ski holiday. Niederau instructors are allowed a fair degree of flexibility. They may do the standard 10-12, 1.00-3.00, or 2.00 -4.00pm. They may also elect, after a couple of days, to start early, ski until 1.00 or 1.30 and finish. In doing so, they are taking best advantage of conditions, abilities, locations, allowing end-of day free ski time, etc. Niederau isn't huge, you will have ample opportunities to check what is happening with the group(s)

Also remember, just as you are meeting people on the gondola, and on the runs, that they also will meet and bond with people in their class. The group will quite often take lunch together, you can join them, and get to meet their group members. You will not be the only people in your situation, many families are of mixed ability.

There is a culmination on the Thursday, where the classes get to do their ski races. This is a lovely part of the week, they try to maximise their standard, and you can watch and cheer. It's great.

I would not curtail any part of their weeks lessons, it is quite disruptive to their progress. Maybe, if you look on the first couple of years of the family skiing as an investment in learning, they will be skiing alongside you by year three.

Or maybe, they will be ahead of you.

GOD-DAMMIT WOMAN. YOU'RE HUSBAND IS THEIR TO LEARN, NOT ENJOY HIMSELF. ALMOST EVERYONE ON HERE KNOWS THAT AND I AM SURPRISED AT YOU FOR NOT KNOWING. IT IS NOT A HOLIDAY FOR HIM.

NOT UNTIL HE IS COVERED IN BRUISES AND BLEEDING FROM HIS BOOTS WILL HE BE FIT TO SKI WITH YOU, SO DON'T EVEN ENTERTAIN THE IDEA. LUNCHES SHOULD BE SPENT ON HIS OWN, CONSIDERING THE CONSEQUENCES OF HIS ACTIONS AND WHY HE HAS NOT LEARNT BEFORE.

I hope this helps.

I can see that response going down even better! lol.

Up until a little while ago he wanted me to be in the beginner group with him until we worked out it would just not be cost effective me being in the class with him learning snowploughs ! (not saying that I wouldnt benifit from the lesson as I am sure I have lots of bad lazy habits)but I don't think that it would be exciting learning how to do a snowplough again. I am sure I can still remember how to do this.

I am probably worrying unneccessarily and I am sure that he will be fine. But it is far from what I was hoping the holiday to be but I know that it must be done if we are to go on future holidays skiing as a family.

I had initially wanted to hire a ski instructor that would teach us in one group so that we could learn as a family, but given the differences in our ski ability and the fact that we are going peak season and noone would be available (after emailing a couple of people).

I am just a bit anxious as I have been trying to persuade hubby for 17 years to come skiing with me and now he has eventually said yes he will spend a week on the slopes on his own I just don't know if he will enjoy it and I don't want him to think that if we go skiing again that he will be on his own and i really want this to be the start of something.

Anyway I am a woman and I am entitled to worry. It is my perogative, along with changing my mind!! and I am sure I will have lots more stupid questions and statements that I will expect you all to answer and put my mind at ease.

On another note, I was looking at my old skiing photos and there was a picture of me standing next to my skis and they were massive for me, they were the old style, the straight ones with pointed tips. Then that lead me to have a dream about skiing where I had my own skis on and I skiid of on my own then lost my family...........great isnt it? lol
