I didnt think they could do this but apparently they are,So much for a free market :x

How long will it be before all the airline`s follow suit and we all have to book direct, There`s nothing like having your cake and eating it, Is there.

My son works at Thomas Cook, and this was disclosed last week to the staff there, so that they make no new bookings. Ryanair are according to people in the industry in deep financial difficulty, so nothing they do surprises me these days. I also no longer consider them a bargain airline, as if you use them for skiing, you end up paying lots of extras for baggage and ski carriage, making them no less costly than many other airlines. I would always use Monarch, First Choice, Thomas Cook, Thomson etc for flights before Ryanair to be honest, and its very simple to book through these companies direct or 3rd party agencies.

This action by Ryanair will cause plenty of confusion for travellers. I'm not sure who will give out the refund?

Ryanair rarely give out refunds, and are famous for leaving travellers stranded, if they want a spat with travel agencies, perhaps they should consider who the customers are

Here is an article in the Telegraph on the problem....

It's not Ryanair's problem really, if you bought a ticket through Honest-Johns ticket emporium your contract is with them as supported by the Sales of Good and Services Act. The publicly available T&C's for Ryanair don't allow third parties to sell their tickets and Ryanair are within their rights to try and enforce that. They've been a bit heavy handed about it apparently but we've no way of knowing if they've issued any sort of cease and desist orders against these third parties.

It's surprising they've allowed these people a free ride for so long, Ryanair are operating a direct sale model and that ability to market direct to customers is an asset, I know Easyjet take your booking and then have a few attempts at selling you more stuff, when Ryanair can't do that it represents a direct financial loss in a really low margin business.

Having put the wind up the resellers and informed a large audience of the intention to enforce this you'd think it would be fair to honour existing bookings and not any made going forward.

Booking through third parties for operators like Easyjet in the future must look a bad idea though now.

I was more surprised that TUI ever got into the business of reselling tickets under these circumstances. It'll be interesting if TUI make refunds and more interesting if they take legal action, you really would expect they took proper legal advice when they decided to breach Ryanair T&C's so they might think they've a defence.

You can see the problem here, if there's no margin on the flights then TUI get to sell higher margin add-ons like insurance, airport car parking, car hire, hotels meanwhile Ryanair are selling a product that's got ever decreasing margins. Rather cheeky when you think about it :!:
