They are 11 of us flying into Grenoble Airport in half term week with Easyjet and will need a car hire or transfer to Oz en Oisans (Linked to Alp d'huez).

Does anyone know of a hire company that is open on a Saturday afternoon as most of the companys are closed. (Avis, Hertz, Alamo). The only one so far we have found open is Europcar.

We have a quote from Bens buses for a transfer which is good, although we would have to transfer to a minibus for the last bit of the journey. The return bus would get us back to the Airport just 2 hours before our flight which might be cutting it fine if there is traffic jam.

Has anyone got any experience with ACTIBUS?

Try travelsupermarket.com and car hire etc. put in what you want and the dates/times and availability comes up. might though be easier to hire a private transfer for that number of people, rather than two or three vehicles/vans.
Good luck

Try holidayautos, easyjet themselves, or economycarhire
but remember you are likely to also need snow chains etc.

Skisuit,

Whenever I hire a car at Grenoble Airport I use the Sunwheels website. They guarantee to get a competitive price. I have never had a problem getting a car on a Saturday afternoon or evening.

There are regular buses to Grenoble bus station from the airport. There are two buses to Oz en Oisans from that bus station each Saturday. Details are on the Oz en Oisans website.

You will also find details of taxi services on the same website.

The information may not yet be updated for next ski season. If so the tourist office at Oz en Oisans will help you:

:DHi Which ever airport i have used (mainly Geneva or Grenoble ) i always use Auto Europe 0800 169 9797 , www.auto-europe.co.uk they use Europecar but are more often than not cheaper than going direct to the car hire firms themselves.

How they areable to do this is probably down to the exchange rates as they have an office in Manchester but are actually located in Maine, New England,USA.

I have used them maybe 12 - 16 times now and have never had a problem and always have a very competetive rate.

best of luck and have a safe tripwhen you go

Thanks for your replies

AutoEurope was the first company we tried as we used them this year when we flew into Geneva. Its through them that I first realised that we had a problem booking a hire car from Grenoble airport on a Saturday.

So far Europcar is the only company we have found(even using broker firms) that we can hire a car from. We would need a car at 15:15 and drop it back the following week at about 11.30. Even Europcar is closed when we would drop the car back but they do have a drop in box for returning cars out of hours.

I think we will probably go for a private transfer bus just to be on the safe side but waiting for everyone in our party to decide.

:DHi again,

Now that you mention this ,i only travel out midweek to midweek (usually a wed or thurs ) so i am unsure as to autoeurope for weekend travel sorry.

The europecar drop in box (frenchside at Geneva) is at the end of the europcar desk just to the left of the double glass doors that lead to the hire car carpark via a glass walkway,on the swiss side i would imagine that the drop in box is located at the desk just the same.

Best of luck with you're search and have a safe and enjoyable trip.

Hi Skisuit.

I used bens bus this past january, and they were great. I think we paid about £35 each for the transfer to Alpe d`huez, bus was on time both ways, and no problems at all. The transfer is only about 1 hour 30, but i`d always rather leave it to the professionals!
