Hi,
We are planning a family skiing holiday and our very first white christmas. We haven't decided on a particular country yet(Canada or possibly somewhere in Europe)and would love some recommendations. We are looking for somewhere that is friendly, not too crowded, reasonably priced, good ski school for the younger kids but still plenty of cute teenage boys for the 16yr old daughter!!

I noticed you put White Christmas..........bang goes Europe then

Nah a high European resort would be ok, and on a good early season like the last one most would be fine. Canada though is guaranteed (virtually) to be very snowy. I was in Big White all last season, Christmas included, and it was dumping until about mid January. I remember skiing knee deep powder on Christmas day, was pretty good!!!! All Western Canadian resorts were the same, and will all be great snow wise.

Only been to Big White though so can only comment first hand on there. Great place for any level of skier, beginners included. Ski school is great, if I was going back there this year which i very nearly was you may have ended up with me as your instructor  . Big White has an emphasis on kids, and cater very well for all ages.

Hope thats of some help :-)

You'll do well to find somewhere 'not too crowded' at Christmas....

The trick would be to go somewhere way out of the way eg. not ANY of the resorts you have heard of. A resort far from big cities and major airports. Otherwise chances are it will be busy.
It doesn't have to be a big resort - since it is your first trip a small / medium size mountain will be more than enough.

Decide on your destination - the aforementioned Canada is probably your best bet for good Xmas snow. Then use the web to search for the remoter resorts from your destination airport.

Hi susan.g. I dont know what you mean when you say reasonably priced,As Christmas and the new year are sooooooooooooooooo expensive on a budget.
Best to go early to mid January imo,Although Christmas on the slopes is special but it comes at a price.

Sounds like you are pimping out your daughter susan.g. Big White from what i've heard from Ben would be ideal-I understand the main street is a pisted run? Banff you are pretty much guarantee a white xmas but I can also guarantee it will be cold.. -30 cold. Also Canada is cheap especially with the Euro destroying the pound!
