The website says that Saas Fee Ski Area is closed, can anyone confirm/explain this?

Thanks

I think they had wind in excess of 50 kph and the snowpack is unstable. I understood they had a handful of lifts open though.

Saas Grund was mostly open though.

Sadly, due to its exposed and glacial nature, closures happen all too often at Saas Fee. Been there on four different trips over the years - and it's happened at least once every time.

On the last occasion, we were having lunch near Maste 4 on a snowy day. The piste patrol came into the restaurant and ordered us to ski down immediately as the mountain was being closed.

Still have a soft spot for the place, though....

I guess it's the luck of the draw. I have had two holidays to Saas Fee, and not suffered any closures. Great village, stunning scenery, and varied ski area :D

I did a training course there once and we lost two days, that was in September IIRC.

The whole of Saas Fee closed due to high winds and avalanch risk from lunchtime onwards, one mid-march day this year.

Saas Grund was an attractive ski area, you ski right up next to the glacier.
