Claviere - cost & views

Just returned from a family holiday in Tignes. Brilliant skiing but costly - particularly beers at 7 euros a pint in the hotel! We're thinking about the Crystul run Grand Claviere. Any views either about the resort (skiing and prices) or the hotel[b][color=black]

Claviere sits on the Vialattea, and I have had 2 great holidays in Sauze, but on both visits the snow has been somewhat missing!
When there is snow, its a great area to ski, with Sestriere, SanSicario and Montgenevre as well as Sauze and Claviere, but it does suffer quite badly with the weather.
Just back myself from Sauze yesterday, and all the resorts in the region are on the verge of closing. No snow since 4th Feb and very hot weather - I am talking 20c on the slopes!

As much as I like the ski area, I would strongly recommend not booking to visit here until the last minute when the conditions are good. If you want to prebook for specific dates, think about going somewhere else.

I Stayed in the Grande hotel Claviere, we skied 1st week in march a couple of years ago and the snow was excellent, hotel great we have 3 children they could eat earlier and parents got the chance to eat on their own, was a creche if needed and they would take younger children to ski school, etc good family hotel
would recommend

Thanks for the feedback - I should have made it clearer that it is Jan 2009 when we're likely to go so hopefully should be more snowsure then! What about the cost of food and drink Tony H?

Its not expensive, but its not cheap. On a par with UK prices. However, a pint in Sauze is now 4.5 euros.

Ouch.
