firstly, i'd like to say a big thank you to everyone that's helped me along with advice, support and generally keeping me happy since january.

I got the results of the scans on both my knees today. the so-called bad (left) knee has a damaged mcl as suspected but no big deal. the so-called good (right) knee has a torn acl, cracked cartilage and bruised and bleeding bones. as you can probably imagine i'm pretty down. I can't ski in tignes in 3 week's time but it's "probable" that i can ski next year - follow up in 6 weeks to see if i need an operation.

so, what would you do...

holiday for 26 (organised by me) in a nice chalet over easter. do you go and hope you don't feel sorry for yourself or do you claim on the insurance and go somewhere else or save it for an eff off skiing holiday next year? (which i obviously can't book yet because of the uncertainty of the future.)

thanks everyone
caron

harsh, with 25 other folk around it can't be too bad? Wouldn't fancy the flight too much! on the other hand you could have a better time elsewhere when you are up and running? how mobile are ya?

not sure what the doctor would say but could you try other things like skidoo's, helecopter rides, dog sledding? If you're up and about, you could still make a bit of a go at it? The alternative would be work!!

Ouch... I can change your username to caron-aaah if you like?

But seriously - that sucks for now, but you can be rebuilt. A friend of mine had keyhole surgery to remove cartilage and repair her ACL, and we skiied La Grave 6 months later without a problem.

Tough call on the holiday... Tigne's not a fantastic place to be for a non-skier and you might find being the odd one out of 25 to be a bit of a bummer.

I reckon your idea of cancelling and putting the money aside for a momentous ski holiday next season has merit. Then you'll have something to aim for and motivate you through the post-op (if that's necessary) physio and stuff.

There are many places that I would have just have gone ahead with the holiday, for the atmosphere and character, but Tignes is not one of them. So I agree with Admin, on this occasion, cut your losses.

More to the point, suggest that you look on 2008 as an investment in your skiing future. It is tough if you have to have an operation, but the follow up physio is very important, and should be skiing orientated.

Very sorry to hear that news. I'd go with lots of rehab, then cross training and plan to rip it up (the slopes, not your knee) next season.

Good luck
