Hi. We've just returned from skiing in Zell am Zee and loved it, however we want to go to Ellmau next year. We will be booking direct, rather than through a travel agent and would love somewhere to stay which is close to the lifts or cablecar. We want EITHER a hotel (good one), or a good quality apartment, which maybe does breakfasts. Most important is NOT to have to use a bus to get to the lifts in the morning. Any ideas anyone?

Just stayed in Ellmau, for the twelve time, still fantastic small village, lowish resort but a lot going for it, always skied.
We have always gone through travel agent, never again. get in touch with the Ellmau tourist info centre very helpful.

There is one place I can reccomend whole heartily

The Claudia. It is a pension that does its own B&B and then in the evening you eat at The Berghof (I think that is the name, is in the main town) - and can use their facilities. Claudia is fantastic only has 16 rooms or so - is very personal service. It is the only place I would ever stay there. The hotel in nearby Going is not good so wouyld not recomend as is a bit 'out of it'. Claudia is opposite the lifts so perfect location.

Ellmau is an excellent small resort, some great traditional bars for very lively, dancing on tables to austrian music apres ski. This is making me want to slap my leather trousers!

Thank you so much both of you. Will definitely look at the Claudia. It's easy reading up on other places to stay or going to tourist office, but if you don't know the layout of the town or the lifts, then the location of each hotel/B&B doesn't make a lot of sense to you. Thanks for the name of Claudia though - will look and let you know.
