Has anyone had experience of staying in the snow houses in Mayrhofen? I'm looking at a deal at the moment. What's the resort like in general? Week planned for 15 - 22 March. 8)

What's a snow house?

Mayrhofen is great, really great. I will be there last week in March for Snowbombing http://www.snowbombing.com/en/ I can't wait :)

I can't reccomend the resort highly enough, great accomodation, great hospitality, great skiing/riding and great apres ski.

Great.

Yes yes yes.

I used Inghams several times before in their snow homes, and last month used Nielson on a 2 star B&B Allocate on Arrival, and got one of the snow homes.

Basically they are small guest houses, probably 5 to 10 rooms, and somewhere to take breakfast. They are all over the village, but theres an excellent bus link and nowhere is far to walk.

They are cheap, and offer a good standard, usually Austrian twins ( a double with 2 matresses and quilts) and ensuite facilities. I havent seen a bad property in Mayrhofen, so if you are thinking about it - dont, just book it.

Inghams in particular were excellent and did some amazing late deals.

Thanks for your replies. I now can't get the deal I was looking at from Belfast to Mayrhofen  so the next best thing I can find is for Soll. Anyone got any views on this resort?

Cheers

Soll.
~ you have to use a ski bus to access the lift.

~Unless you stay in the hotel Gansleit, you have to get a bus back. You can pole across the field to the Gansleit.

~The Ski Welt offers a pretty good range and length of skiing, good for ski touring.

~ Go visit the church, it is one of the most beautiful in Tirol. Go Tuesday evening, and you may hear the organist practicing, a half hour of your life that you will never forget.

For accomodation, contact the Soll web site. there will always be somewhere to stay. Doesn't have to be Soll, could be Ellmau,Going, Hofgarten, Westendorf.

Soll is a great place. Small but everyone is really friendly and up for a laugh. You dont have to get a bus to the lifts, you can walk it from most parts of Soll in 10/15 mins which is sometimes not a bad thing if youve been on the jagermeisters the night before!
