Anyone been to Foppolo, Italy ;

Thinking of going there, and will either stay in Carona or Foppolo, looking for advice on where to stay, where not to etc.

Foppolo is linked to Carona- there is a Gondala from Carona, which takes you to the main skiing area. Some piste maps show a piste back down to Carona, some dont. Is it possible to ski to Carona or do we have to take the Gondola down ?
What is the sking like in nearby Piani di Bobbio

Thanks Folks

Hi,
I've been to Foppolo twice - both times on short breaks.
It's a great place if you want somewhere unpretentious and friendly.

It's not a big place and you may get bored if there for a week.
You can ski to Carona - it's very nearby.

There is also another resort nearby but the name deserts me. You can catch a bus there, it's not far.

We stayed at Le Pineta..it was ok but the food was not up to much.
You could see if they do B&B.
There was a great little bar at the bottom of the main slope where they brought out snacks and were very friendly. The Bombadino's are well worth trying.
Also, the restaurant at the top of same slope did excellent lunches. Far surpassed any french mountain restaurant - and not expensive either.

There are some lovely runs through trees off main slope - but not exactly off piste. Great fun if snow is good.

It's a very steep road up to village and when my sister went two years ago the poor bus driver had to put snowchains on at night halfway up it. There was 4 feet of snow all the way up the sides. They were snowed in for the week.

On the whole recommended - but not too often or for too long.

Hi...again...
Just checked and the nearby resort was San Simone.
It was very foggy on the day we were there so I am afraid I cannot report on it.

seems to have a little report on the area...
