Hi Mike,

You should get lucky if you contact the local guide's organisations / schools - there are often other solo skiers and/or small groups arranging to go off-piste who'll be amenable to having someone else join them and split the cost.

Some guides/schools may even have solos already booked at the time you're planning, so it may be worth e-mailing a few to ask and register your own interest.

Certainly it'd be better to go with a guide-led group if the rest of the skiers aren't known to you (then you know that at least one of the group know where you're going).

Hi Mike,

I'll be in St Anton similar time to yourself and have skiied there before. I don't know of any locations/meeting places to hook up for off-piste skiing.

Last time I was there I went out with a group called Piste to powder (www.pistetopowder.com) who run guided groups off-piste. They were excellent and it makes for good economy if hiring your own guide is a little expensive.

The only down-side is finding yourself in a group that is held-up by one or two skiers a little less skilled than the remainder of the group. This is always going to be an issue skiing with new people, whether you're with an organised group or not.

Others have told me that the higher level ski school groups (specifically those from the Zurs ski school apparently) basically head off-piste as a matter of course and that you do a lot of off-piste skiing if you spend a week with such a group.

There is also a book called "Off piste all around the Arlberg" by Andy Thurner which is really good and contains many good routes.

Obviously this doesn't help with finding people to ski with, without parting with some cash but I hope it's of some use.
