Hello all. Just new on and looking some advice. Going to Livingo in march, havn't skied in over 10 years, used to be just O.K. (reds and blacks) but now really unfit. Looking to do the minimum training(bit lazy) so what is the mimimum. I live in Belfast and have access to a very small dry slope?

Possibly over simplifying things here but;

To get heart/lungs fit then see if any of your local gyms run spinning classes (exercise biking to music - sounds camp I know but it's only for an hour!). Really good work out. During the first session you will probably think it's the worst thing you ever done but stick with it.

Get out on that dryslope. Dryslopes are like the worst snow imaginable but worse. If you go enough your muscles will get used to it and make skiing on snow a lot easier. There's nothing like a dryslope drag-pull to get them shoulders/arms/hips/legs/ankles/feet/toes and toe nails into condition.

of course you could just accept that you're a bit unfit, take it easy and ease yourself back into the skiing lark, after all, you might not like it :P
I would have got away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids!

Ronster,

On the tour operator trips I have been on the usual situation at breakfast is

Day 1 at breakfast : Every one is up early and waiting for breakfast to be served ASAP, every one is excited to be finally going skiing after months of anticipation. The excitement is almost tangible.

Day 2 at breakfast : As day one and also every one is smiling and looking happy because they went skiing yesterday.

Day 3 as breakfast : Almost every one is still up early for breakfast as some are looking chuffed because they are really improving on the slopes.

Day 4,5,6 : The early starters get fewer and fewer as tiredness sets in.

So the answer depends on how much skiing you want to do. If you want to be the first out on the piste and the last back then you will need to do a fair amount of fitness training, you have two full months after Christmas which is plenty of time to get fit. On the other hand you could do very little fitness work and then suffer extreme tiredness midweek. Personal opinion is that the fitter you are the more skiing you will do, you will enjoy it more because aching muscles will be less of a problem and you should be safer on the slopes as tiredness leads to mistakes and so possibly injury.
