I have been skiing only once before & have worn only hire boots, I also tried hire boots on the dry ski slope a few weeks ago. My problem is that my feet ache really badly form the moment I put the boots on to around 30 mins after I have taken them off, I have quite wide feet but the part of my foot that generally aches is the outside of my foot from my little toe up to my heel..anyone any ideas on how to correct/stop this pain as i am worried it will ruin my holiday.

I think really you need to make a decision - to buy or not to buy!
Generally hire boots are pretty awful. There is usually a limited choice and sometimes even a choice of one manufacturer. Also the hire shop probably isn't willing to spend too much time getting a boot to fit propperly.
However money talks so if you were on the market to buy a pair of boots then a lot more time would be spent on trying to find a boot that best suits your needs and even, if required, modifying the boots. My girlfriend has terrible feet (very wide by the toes, narrow elsewhere) but she has boots that she can keep on all day
If you decide to buy then post you rough home location or which resort you are planning on visiting and I'm sure someone here would be able to recommend a good boot fitter.

Bridget,
Yes it will ruin your holidays!
If you love skiing. Want to have this wonderful life style all your life, then there is a solution.
Do not lose hope. You see Bridget ski boots can be just like you comfy slippers. Yes!!!
You have to sit down and "talk" to your self about what you want to do as far as skiing. If it is going to be a life time activity, then you must forget cost, color, company when you look for that boot.
Trust me you can find a boot for you. I have very strange feet. So if I can get boots that fit me like gloves and are as comfortable as slippers,,,so can you.
Let me share with you my feet problems.
burnt right foot
different size feet ( left is larger)
high arch
huge knob on left big toe
as child wore "special shoes" due to pigeon toe defects
If I can get ski boots that I can wear all day with no pain,,so can you.
If you are willing to plan ahead and take the time to find that ski boot PM me and I will send you all sorts of information.
The worst option however is to again rent ski boots for ski holiday. It is better to stay home!

Do as much research as possible befor you buy. You will have a better idea of what you might be looking for and questions to ask. Here are some related post from this forums archives.
