Well the contest is over.

The winner is Mike by far! His wife will be happy that this contest is over since she has not "seen" him for two weeks.

His comments and observations were amazing.

I will be sending Mike the polar fleece Spyder jacket to him this week! I am sure he will have many stories to tell his fellow skiers about how he "obtained this jacket"!

An honorable mention must be made to Bandit who came to his aid. As all good skiers the help, when he was down was greatly appreciated. I am sure when Bandit comes to Canada, Mike act as a "special" tour guide"

Another very special "honorable" mention is needed for some amazing keen eyed observations by Jan.His precision and analysis of some of the ski items "raised" the bar for all to respect! I am sure he could have given Mike some serious competition , but his priorities at the moment were closer to home!

Ellistine ( who I thought would give serious competition to Mike) now is starting a collection of product booklets, flyers, etc... so that when we repeat this quizz in 2010 he will be well prepared!

Seriously ,,,if you want to be a well informed, well educated skier,,you must begin to read all the literature on ski equipment. You must learn to understand why some products last several generations while others seem to disappear!

That Look Nevada bindings that I wanted all to see,,,was a binding that revolutionized binding design in the 1960's and if you look at the modern Rossi racing binding it is the same design!

Bravo Mike! Your jacket is coming via Purolator! Wear it proudly.

Well, thank you Pavel. :)

And thank you Rossfra8 and Hirsty. The more dapper I look the better - it may make up for a lack of(but developing) skiing skills!

Pavel's quizzes always bring on an addiction of sorts. Often I think there is something hidden in plain sight that I can't discover. Then I'm driven to deep thought ..." what could Pavel want us to see...?".

Yes Judy may be happy the quizz has concluded ---the leaves need raking now!!

But Pavel don't leave this quizz with questions in our minds! I for one need an answer or two. The most curious item is the long ribbed item in the lower right of the picture. I think there is another similar item in the upper right as well. I suggested it may have been a ski skin for climbing up the hills where there was no lift. What is it??

Curious minds need sleep :!:

I'll keep an eye out for Gary - our Purolator delivery guy!

Thanks again,
Mike

I guess there's no replacement for age and experience

It's not my fault I'm so young! 8)

I think what you are referring to Mike is the ski base from an Elan ski that De-laminated!

That "ribbed" part you see is the inside of the ski base! It is a fiberglass layer which is glued to ski base!

The upper right item on a ski tip , is the same base layer from the same ski but from the tail section!

What amazed me is that no one got the long thong leather strap in the center of picture!

I guess you are all too young to know the pleasures of the long thong!

Alos you all did not see the very famous VR 17 Dynamic ski! First all fiberglass ski which Jean-Claude Killy ( who????) used to win many many medals! Imagine skied a 207 cm. SL ski ,,,and it was very very nervous!

If ever I ski with any of you I will give you for one or two runs a Volkl Super G 210 cm. ski to try! You will appreciate the new ski designs!

Cheers

Well imagine my suprise this morning when I checked out my favorite ski site (aka J2SKI) and my last post wasn't there. Ellistine ... when we get older we sometimes forget to press the right buttons. But I'm not using that for my excuse :)

But ellistine the "more experienced", that is the older followers of our J2Ski bantering are jealous of your "youth". I wish I had found skiing 30 years ago. Just imagine the changes you will see in the next 30.

Bandit: Thank you for your kind words. However I would NOT have known the OMESOFT ski was any more than an OMES ski you hadn't added the "OFT" and from that we have more detail for interests sake. Thanks!

Pavel: Thanks again for another informative and interesting quiz. We learn why we are, where we are from knowing from where we have come. Maybe some day (when I'm famous) someone will use that in a quyptaquote in a newspaper somewhere.

Thanks for revealing the inside of the ELAN ski. Now I don't need to cut open my "tuning practice " ELAN skis to see this ribbed structure.

I'll be watching for Gary !!!
