Help! SOS! We have been traveling to the Dolomites for years in summer and a bit in the winter. We have covered many trails from Cortina to San Cassiano to Compatsch. With limited time this year, I booked a week in late February at a resort in Tires. We did not intend to ski but to get in a good week of snow shoeing and viewing snow covered mountains. As I watch the snow reports and view the webcams, I see what little snow had arrived in December has been melting away. I had no idea there would be NO snow by late February. Even as I view the cabriolet cable car that goes up to the higher elevations, it appears there is little snow up there. Should I change plans and travel over to Compatsch or Val Gardena where it appears there is some snow? Is there any chance of snow in Rosengarten during the month of February?

I don't know the area myself, but the closest ski area is - I think - Carezza, which appears to have reasonable snow cover (and plenty of people skiing) right now;

See https://carezza.it/en/info_service/webcam

Also, "late February" is 2 or 3 weeks away yet so there's plenty of time for the weather to change.

There's no major snowfall in the forecast at the moment, but temperatures are expected to stay low and - importantly - apart from this coming Friday, there's no rain predicted either; so the snow on the mountains should hang around.

So it depends; are you feeling lucky? will you have a car? how late can you cancel/rearrange your hotel, etc.

The Dolomites don't usually get as much snow as the north-West (Valle d'Aosta), but it snowed again last week. Having said that, anything can happen between now and the end of Feb.
There's definitely enough snow to ski but I am not familiar with the winter trails in the area. If if you can't use snowshoes, you'll just go in your hiking boots.
Are you worried you'll get spring conditions at the end of Feb?
I know the weather is very unpredictable these days, but there is usually good snow cover through to mid-April
(I hope these are not the famous last words.....)
The photo was taken in Val Gardena the first week of March 2024

I'd say that you will get some snow, whether you need snow shoes or just trekking boots, it'll depend on where you go, but these website may give more details
